Resume Cover Letter Help - Part 5
Oh, how I love when everything turns our wonderful and we owe all this happiness to an amazing piece of software that changed the life of my niece and her best friend forever. They both got the resume cover letter help they needed at such a critical time in their life. We all go through stressful times in our life and when it is finally over we always feel so free. Resume Cover Letter Help - Part 3
It was the next Friday morning. Being recently retired, I had been enjoying sleeping in on many days. I was just waking up about 7 a.m. when the phone rang. Now who on earth can that be this early I thought to myself and I debated whether or not to answer it. My friends all know not to call that early. They had met in an ethics class their freshman year and had become instant best friends. They had become so close, in fact, that Sandra felt comfortable calling me "Aunt Cyn" too.
When I opened the door to greet my niece and Sandra that afternoon, I could see they were both loaded down with dirty laundry.
I just laughed and pointed, "Basement... and you're both doing your own loads!"
They giggled and headed downstairs dropping socks along the way.
At dinner, Sandra said, "Aunt Cyn, I wanted to thank you for agreeing to help me with my resume cover letter."

This sparked Sandra's interest in engineering design. She found herself studying the way things were built after that experience. During Sandra's junior year in college, she attended a city council meeting in her home town during Christmas break and spoke during the public comment period. She reminded them all about what had happened to her brother, told them about her classes in engineering, and suggested several ways to improve the playground equipment in the local parks to make it more safe. The city coucil was so impressed with her, they set up a meeting with the city manager. This was evidently followed by a flurry of emails and conference calls. In the end, it turns out they actually implemented some of her suggestions and are working on finding funding to do more.
I was in awe. I had always been impressed with Sandra but it just hit me how outstanding this was for such a young person and I suddenly shouted, "Put that in your resume cover letter - put it right at the top!!"
"Really?!?"

I took my time in the garden that day and did a lot of thinking. My niece had come to me for resume cover letter help and I wanted to go about it in the right way. There was a debate going on in my head. Should I try to let her do it on her own or should I just write it for her? But when I looked over and saw the look of despair on my niece's face, the smile left my face in a hurry. I can't stand to see my niece hurting. Applying for jobs is really stressful and I could see it was taking its toll on my niece.
I put my hands on her shoulders and said, "Now, don't give up. Let's work on it together."

I put my hands on her shoulders and said, "Now, don't give up. Let's work on it together."
With a deep breath, "Okay, Aunt Cyn."
"Tell me what kind of job you really want."
She thought about it for a moment and then said, "Well, I'd prefer to work for a nonprofit. Some place where I really believed in their mission."
"Does it have to be an environmental non-profit?"
"Maybe... I don't know... I'd also like working in an organization that does humanitarian work. I know that I like helping people and I think I'd be good at it. I started talking with a homeless person the other day and I told him about a special program where he could work and get shelter. At first he showed no interest but I sat down on the sidewalk and talked him into it. It was fun getting him interested and I actually thought to myself that I might like to do this kind of work. You know I used to volunteer at Jackie's House."
My heart swelled with pride. Jackie's House is a shelter for abused women. My niece has a very special spirit and people really like her. She can talk anyone into anything really. She's got a big heart and she's always looking out for people.
"Why don't you put one of these experiences in the letter and build on it?"
We worked all day taking little breaks and laughed a lot at our crazy drafts but eventually we got something together that we both liked.
